In a perfect world, if you took the time to organize your small laundry room, you would be able to perform the following functions in there: sort, wash, dry, fold, and iron your clothes. Laundry rooms are usually small, so it helps to “think vertically” to take advantage of all available space.
Organize Your Small Laundry Room
- Install shelves or cabinets above the washer and dryer to store cleaning supplies.
- If you have a shelf above the washer and dryer, add baskets to conceal the supplies and help the room look neat.
- Have a place to hang clothes that need to be air-dried. A tension rod for the shower works well because you can adjust it to the width you need. There are also over-the-door drying racks that will do the job as well.

How to Maximize Space in a Small Laundry Room
- If you have room, add a 3-compartment laundry center and have each family member sort their clothes into darks, lights, and colors. Some laundry centers have folding shelves or ironing boards attached to them.
- Add an ironing board to the wall or hang an ironing board from the back of the laundry room door.
- If you have front-loading appliances, put one long counter across the top to fold clothes. This will keep socks from falling in between the washer and dryer.

How to Organize a Small Laundry Room With No Cabinets
- If you have a decent amount of space in your laundry room, add a freestanding organizer or a rolling caddy. It fits between the washer and dryer to store needed supplies.
- Post a stain-removal guide somewhere in the laundry room for quick reference. This one is magnetic so that you can stick it on the front or side of your washer or dryer.
Add a small trash can or lint bin to the room to throw away lint, fabric softener sheets, and empty cleaning containers.
Once you organize your small laundry room, you will be able to get laundry done faster, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll actually look forward to laundry day! 😉

Love the idea of a well-organized laundry room…but I don’t think it’s enough to make me enjoy doing the wash. LOL 🙂 Besides, when you have a family, EVERY DAY is laundry day. I do a load a day to keep the laundry clutter at bay.
