How to Prepare Your Home for Holiday Guests-10 Ways to Make Them Feel Welcome
With Thanksgiving and Christmas quickly approaching, now is a good time to share some tips to help you prepare your home for holiday guests.
Steps to Prepare Your Home for Holiday Guests
How to Create Space for Your Holiday Guest’s Coats and Shoes
The first place to start is with your coat closet. Go through the closet to ensure you have enough space for your guest’s coats, scarves, gloves, and any other outdoor items they may bring. Hang a plastic shoe bag with multiple pockets over the inside of the door to hold keys, phones, glasses, etc. Move extra coats to another closet in the house.
Now is also an excellent time to re-evaluate if you even need or want those coats anymore. If not, create a giveaway pile for a local coat drive.
Find a location near the door to store shoes. You can use a basket, plastic bin, or a floor rug to show guests where to leave their shoes. If you currently have a shoe storage system, make sure there’s room to store your guest’s shoes. If not, move extra shoes to the bedroom closet or garage.
Steps to Prepare the Holiday Guest Bedroom
Store extra pillows, towels, and blankets on the top shelf in their bedroom closet. Be sure to clean out the closet, so your guests have a place to put their luggage and hang their clothes.
Wash the bed linens and add a holiday-scented candle to the bedroom. Ask your guests if they have any allergies before adding scents.
Hang a hook over the closet door so your guests can hang the clothes they plan to wear each day.
Place a basket of fresh fruit, water bottles, and snacks on the dresser. This way, they won’t have to find their way to the kitchen if they get hungry or thirsty during the night.
How to Prepare the Guest Bathroom
In the guest bathroom, hang hooks over the door for their towels. If you can, it’s best to issue different color towels so they don’t get mixed up when hung up.
Place an empty basket or tray on the bathroom counter so they can keep track of all of their items. A basket of sample-sized toiletries is helpful if they forget to pack something.
Store extra rolls of toilet paper where guests can see them.
