Why should you declutter the foyer? Well, your foyer is the first place guests see when they enter your home, and believe me, they are going to judge what they see. You can make all the excuses in the world as to why it looks the way it does, but your guests are going to form their own opinions.
Declutter the Foyer
Now, you shouldn’t only declutter the foyer to impress your guests; you should want to have a decluttered foyer to feel better about your home. Whether you enter your home through the front door, back door, or through a mudroom connected to your garage, this post is for you!
- When you first enter your home, create a “drop zone.” The drop zone is a place to put things down immediately after entering the house. This is where you’ll put your keys, purse, shoes, and backpacks. Look around and decide where this drop zone will be and make a note of the items you will need to organize this space. Things you may need are a tray or hooks for keys, a basket or shoe rack for shoes, hooks for backpacks and coats. If you have a coat closet near your entry, organize that space as your drop zone.
- If you don’t have a nearby closet, add wall hooks or a coat rack to hang coats and backpacks.
- Place a tray on a table near the door, so you’ll have a place for your keys and mail.
That’s it!
As you can see, it doesn’t take much to declutter the foyer. If you have a place to put the things that come into the house, you will be able to keep it neat and well organized.
If the hardest part will be getting the rest of the family to keep it that way, read this article I wrote here. It will show you the three things you need to implement to get your family on board.
