If you’re the slightest bit curious and you’d like to see how much I’ve saved in the past using coupons, click here.

There are many ways you can save money even if you don’t clip a single coupon…I’m just sharing 6 of them. Be sure to keep these tips in mind the next time you head to the store.

6 CReative ways to save money without using coupons

Shop at the store with the lowest prices

Before purchasing something, ask yourself if you are able to purchase the same thing or something similar at a cheaper store.  I like to think of it this way: Once you are out of debt or have your emergency fund established, you can go back to buying the more expensive items. But for now, focus on shopping at stores with the lowest prices. Sign up for the store’s loyalty card and you’ll always receive the sale price without using any coupons.

purchase cheaper alternatives

If you are meal planning, consider adding less expensive items to your shopping list. Consider chicken over beef, or go meatless a few nights a week. If you regularly purchase organic products, think about just purchasing the Dirty Dozen as organic. You can also purchase produce when it’s in season. Don’t forget to consider generic products as well. Sometimes I find the generic options to be as tasty, if not tastier, than the name brand item.

Stock up on items when they are on sale

If you find a great deal, purchase as much as you can to avoid paying a higher price later on. Also, pay close attention to after-holiday sales, off-season clothing sales, and clearance racks when shopping.

Skip pre-packaged foods

You’ll save a lot of money if you cut up your own food and have your meat sliced at the deli. Also, avoid things like Lunchables. Although buying prepackaged food may seem like a time saver and is more convenient, you will definitely save more money in the long run if you purchase the individual items and do the work yourself.

Look up and down the shelves to find cheaper alternatives

The most popular items are located at eye level and cost more. Take note of this the next time you are at the store. You can thank me later! 😉

Don’t buy personal products at the grocery store

If you clip and use coupons, you can purchase them at the grocery store and get really good prices. However, if you’re not using coupons, you’ll find your best prices at the dollar store and the drugstore (when the items are on sale and you’re using your store loyalty card.)

So there are my 6 creative ways to save money without using coupons. Now you have no excuse to save money!! 🙂

  1. Great tips!I’m always down for savings without coupons. I tend to forget my coupons when I’m shopping. I like using RetailMeNot to see what deals I can get and I like to shop off season for clothes and onseason for fruits and veggies.

    1. I also use Retail Me Not. It’s one of my favorite apps to use to save money on items other than groceries. Whenever I use the app in a store, at lot of times the person next in line asks me about it so they can save money also. I love sharing the savings!

  2. I love getting the holiday themed food items. My favorite is the refrigerated cookie dough. They usually sell it for at least 50% off. It tastes the same whether it’s plain or has a pumpkin printed on it so who cares. It’s an inexpensive treat for the kids!

  3. Six great ways to save without bothering to have coupons! I also find that many grocery stores will match the prices of competitor’s ads for similar items, even if it was as a coupon savings….Joanne

  4. Another thing I do to save money is to cook my own legumes (dried beans) rather than buying them canned. I get the added bonus of not having all the sale they put in the canned variety. I cook up a big pot and freeze them in individual plastic containers. When I need beans (kidney, pinto, garbanzo, or black) I have then at the ready.
