When the detergent and fabric softener builds up on the towels, it reduces its absorbancy and the towels become stiff. They also turn smelly when wet.
Here’s what I do to combat this problem:
- Wash the towels in hot water and add 1/2-1 cup of distilled white vinegar to the water-no detergent.
- Wash the towels a second time in hot water and add 1/2-1 cup of baking soda-no detergent.
- Dry them with 1/2 dryer sheet to avoid static cling.
- The next time you wash the towels, add 1/2 cup of vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser and add detergent to the water as usual.
These steps will remove the build up of detergent and fabric softener and will make the towels soft and fluffy like they were when you purchased them.
Give it a try and let me know if this tip works for you!
